Notes from Dennis

Welcome to Highland Hiking, a company dedicated to provide information and quality products supporting all levels of hiking while protecting our trails for the hikers and backpackers of our precious ecosphere. From the day hike to the long, challenging backpacking trips, two very important issues pop up: HighlandHiking.com is structured to provide the most information available on hiking trails, methods and materials to increase comfort, products of the highest quality, and programs dedicated to protecting our trails.

The Highland Hiking website is dynamic with fresh input daily on hiking trails, product features, environmental and ecological issues, health and hiking tips, quotations about the hiking in the great outdoors, and testimonies about trails and training programs.

Highland Hiking encourages you to actively support the protection of our limited hiking trails. Population explosion in rural cities has created a spreading of homes and communities throughout the landscapes. This expansion has reduced hiking trails and pastoral lands from around the cities.

A great deal of excellent work has been started by a dedicated group of hikers who formed The American Hiking Society to promote both local, state, and federal initiatives that will protect our trails. Highland Hiking is actively linked to www.americanhiking.com. Our greater success will only occur when a larger number of people get involved with programs to protect our trails. Highland Hiking will actively participate in many these programs through our support on the Internet and through a percentage of internal profits.

Down at the personal level, Highland Hiking will have a monthly newsletter updating hikers about local and federal programs to promote hiking and to protect our trails. You can join these programs at a variety of levels from the occasional support and weekends up to major trail maintenance programs along side a fellow group dedicated hikers. This newsletter will also chronicle the training programs a couple of hikers as they prepare to hike Mount Whitney, the tallest peak in the 48 states. For the beginners and those restarting their hiking programs for a variety of reasons, Highland Hiking will chronicle the efforts of its founder to recover from a total knee replacement.

Hiking is both a physical and mental exercise that can be enjoyed in a solitary hike or with a pack of friends or other fellow hikers. One’s efforts and one’s reward is a personal summation of training, expertise, expectations, and Nature's handling of your time in the outdoor world. Highland Hiking was formed to participate fully in the tools and rules of hiking. We appreciate your input recognizing organizations thrive on the receiving and disseminating health useful information.
